FRANCE RISK DISQUALIFICATION FROM U17 WORLD CUP

France could be disqualified from the U17 World Cup after fielding Yanis Issoufou, who had already represented NIger during the qualification stages.

As reported by Sport News Africa, an administrative error could put pay to Les Bleuets’ chances of winning the ongoing tournament, which is taking place in Indonesia. France are through to the quarter-finals after beating Senegal in the Round of 16 on Wednesday. However, one player absent from the squad was Issoufou. The Montpellier forward was withdrawn from the teamsheet at the last minute with France worried about the player’s inclusion. He had registered two assists in three appearances at the competition, but the FFF did not want to take any chances.

Issoufou had recently played for Niger U17s in a competition that allowed the African nation to qualify for the U17 World Cup, whilst FIFA’s rules prohibit a player from representing two nations during the same tournament. Burkina Faso, who were dumped out of the competition at France’s expense, could file a plea, according to Sport News Africa. The publication added that France had not requested to change Issoufou’s nationality.

Unfortunately for Erling Haaland and co, Georgia will take Group A’s spot in the play-offs owing to their Nations League coefficient.

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN TAKES AIM AT UEFA OVER ABSENCE OF GOAL-LINE TECHNOLOGY IN FRANCE QUALIFIER

Having battled to a draw against a determined Greek team in Athens, France have missed out on a full house of Euro 2024 qualifying victories.

After equalising through a long-range effort from Youssouf Fofana, Didier Deschamps men came within inches of clinching a late win, as Kingsley Coman broke through down the right and sent in a cross. The effort would deflect off Greek defender Zeca onto the post, before hitting the opposite upright as well. Replays would show that the ball appeared to cross the line on its way to other post, before swerving back into the field of play.

Speaking to TF1 in the aftermatch, vice-captain Antoine Griezmann – who was skipper for most of the evening in Kylian Mbappé’s absence – expressed his frustration at the absence of goal-line technology for the fixture. The midfielder goes as far as taking direct aim at UEFA, calling for the sport’s continental governing body to increase the use of technology in matches:

Goal-line technology is what was missing! UEFA has a lot of money and they can’t manage to put everything in place for us to know whether it’s a goal or not. We have to ask a bit more of UEFA – if they want us to be playing lots of games, we need to ask them for more technology.”

MBAPPÉ’S DEMAND: THE TWO KEY FACTORS HE REQUESTS FROM REAL MADRID AND PSG

Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé can begin signing a pre-contract once the calendar turns to 2024. The 24-year-old will become a free agent, and there’s no doubt he will have demands on whoever he signs with.

While there are economic demands that the Frenchman has, there are also requests that he will put on the table for Real MadridPSG, or any club attempting to sign him.

Defensa Central reports that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner set forth two non-negotiable demands for Real Madrid as he contemplates a move to the Spanish giants.

The first and perhaps the most unusual of the two requests relates to international duty. Mbappé seeks assurance that he can actively represent France in the 2024 Olympic Games held in Paris.

Unlike other football competitions, Olympic participation is contingent upon the agreement of the player’s club, as it does not fall within the recognized FIFA dates.

Why this demand? He probably doesn’t want to pass on the opportunity to win a gold medal in his hometown. The second request highlights Mbappé’s desire for a well-considered and unhurried decision-making process, which is a more conventional approach.

The player suggests that he wishes to delay the finalization of his move to Real Madrid until March or April. Mbappé is known for his deliberate approach to crucial career decisions. As a result, rushing into a January signing does not align with his preferred modus operandi.
